Sampson Lewkowicz Says Plant, Charlo, and Morrell are Top Targets for Next Benavidez Fight
When David “Red Flag” Benavidez (26-0, 23 KO’s) stepped into the ring for his last fight, he was intent on having a good showing. The two-time super middleweight champion, and strong favorite to prevail, was performing in front of his home town in Phoenix, Arizona. Naturally, he wanted to supply a memorable showing for the fans at hand. In that regard, the evening was a complete success. Once in the ring with the hard-hitting, one-time middleweight champion David Lemieux, it was all Benavidez.
Red Flag sinisterly undressed Lemieux’s defense faster than a popular Magic City main feature. Right from the start, he rolled the Canadian’s head around with a thumping jab and hurt him badly enough to warrant a first round TKO. Instead, Lemieux would continue to get brutalized for two more rounds. This was because by the third period, Lemieux was badly bruised, steadily bleeding, had been hurt countless times and his corner had seen enough. Understandably, a merciful white towel saved the supremely brave fighter from himself.
THREE THE HARD WAY!
Admittedly, while this was a very fun fight, it was not the one that Benavidez or the fans wanted. So, now that Benavidez has taken care of business in dynamic fashion he and his team can turn their attention to what’s next. Luckily, in the post-fight conference his promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing, was very straightforward about what their immediate intentions are.
“Well let me put it this way for everybody: to be a hundred percent, what I am saying is the precise truth and I want everybody to put that in black and white. We have three options for November. One in [Caleb] Plant, the second one is [Regular WBA super middleweight champion David] Morrell and the third one is [WBC middleweight champion Jermall] Charlo. There is no other fight!”
Realizing that the public would be extremely interested in knowing who was leading the pack, Lewkowicz did not fail to toss a bone.
“It’s three guys that deserve to fight. I imagine that Plant is the best one because you have a personal vendetta between [these two] for a long time. So if you really want the fight, we’ll be ready for Plant.”
Let’s hope that in the next several weeks we can get a better indication of who Benavidez will face next. Either way, 3Kings Boxing will remain on the scene to report the news as the information breaks.
