K2 promoter Tom Loeffler accuses Canelo Alvarez of skipping drug test post the Golovkin rematch!
Gennady Golovkin’s promoter, Tom Loeffler, has come out with an explosive allegation against Canelo Alvarez. According to the promoter, the unified middleweight champion skipped a mandatory VADA drug test following their championship bout.
Loeffler said:
“VADA scheduled a test for GGG a week after the fight. I made sure that Canelo was also being tested. Next day the random test was cancelled. Strange that it was cancelled, maybe Canelo was back in Mexico eating steaks celebrating his decision.”
There are a few problems with this claim. First, VADA is a third party. They function independently and, therefore, neither party should be able to “schedule” a test.
Secondly, the unified champion now undergoes testing year round due to his enrollment in the Clean Boxer Program. As for now neither Alvarez, his team, or VADA have issued any statements regarding Loeffler’s claims.
