Teofimo Lopez mocks Devin Haney for being on “Recess” or “Reese’s”

In boxing, there are cooked up feuds to hype a fight, then there are real-life actual rivals. Champions Teofimo Lopez (15-0 12ko) and Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15ko) fit the latter. Both men have been on each other’s neck.

This situation can only be solved in the ring at some point in time.

WBC champion Haney recently had surgery on his right shoulder. As reported, everything went well and he is expected to be out of action for six months. The young champion, over social media, let everyone know that he will return and make history again, becoming the youngest two-time champion.

The WBC has placed boxing’s youngest champion under the champion in recess status. This means that upon returning, he can get the first crack at getting the title back. Furthermore, the organization later ordered former WBA super featherweight champion Javier Fortuna (35-2-1, 24ko) to face former title challenger Luke Campbell (20-3, 16ko).

LOPEZ WITH THE VERBAL JAB

IBF champion Lopez captured the title by defeating former champion Richard Commey on December 14. During the post-fight press conference, when asked about a possible fight with his divisional rival, the Brooklyn champion took a comical play with word jabs, adding a little bit of the famous Allen Iverson “We talking practice” at the champion in recess.

“They put him on recess the WBC, we going to put you on time-out here is some Reese’s. That is the most pettiest thing you want to be called right there man, Reeses DAMN! We talking about Reeses!”

The plan for the IBF champion is a showdown with unified champion Vasyl Lomachenko (14-1, 10ko). This blockbuster fight will take place sometime in 2020.

As of the writing of this article, there hasn’t been any response from Haney. However, best believe as soon as this gets to his ears, there will be something coming down the pike.
