Montana Love still has his eyes set on Gervonta Davis
For super lightweight talent Montana “Too Pretty” Love (16-0-1, 8 KO’s), life is going splendidly. The Cleveland, Ohio native is fresh off his biggest professional win over Russian bruiser Ivan Baranchyk. After seven rounds of blistering action, Love stopped Baranchyk in front of a roaring hometown crowd. Looking to strike while the iron was hot, Too Pretty has successfully hustled the memorable performance into a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. If given his way though, Love has found his long-term promotional home.
While Love would be content to continue pacing himself as he develops, he is still very open to big and dangerous bouts. One prizefight at the top of his wish-list is regular WBA super lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (25-0, 24 KO’s). A few years ago, the two engaged in a brief social media war of words in the aftermath of a sparring session. Ever since that time, Love has sought to face Davis in a sanctioned prizefight. This is exactly what he shared with IFL TV as well as mentioning another boxer on his “need to terrorize” list.
“I said it at the end of my last fight, [I want] the guys who have the titles at my weight. Josh Taylor and Gervonta, them the fights that just make sense, you know what I mean? They the world champions right now, them definitely the fights that I would love to have. They would be mega-fights!”
I’LL BE BACK!
Love is no fool though. Sure, those are the fights that he wants but he also realizes that with boxing being the business that it is, perhaps he still has some more building to do.
“I feel from ’35 to ’47 I’m great! I’m solid anywhere we go, but like I said, my focus is on building my brand. Building the brand, building the legacy, the talk. So when those fights come, the right money and everything comes with it. Everything comes with it, not just the money, just everything comes with it!”
Despite a minor miracle taking place, there is not a great deal of hope that Too Pretty lands one of the major fights in his next outing. Regardless of who he battles though, Love will be looking to stay busy and on the people’s mind by sliding through the ropes again in the near future.
“I think that is still confidential right now, so I can’t really say that yet [the fight date]. But it’s soon. We are back in one more fight before the year is out.”
