Luis Torres Stopped Nicholas Walters Early
In his American debut, lightweight Luis Torres (21-1, 11KO) picked up the victory over two-divisional champion Nicholas “Axe Man” Walters (29-2-1, 22KO).
After a slow opening round where the veteran controlled the pace, Torres picked up the offense the next couple of rounds. His body punches and straight left hand put Axe Man in retreat mode momentarily. Despite suffering a cut over the left eye, Torres fought strong, landing painful thudding shots.
In round three, Walters started to wilt under the pressure as age became a factor. The 39-year-old Jamaican tried to fight back but couldn’t avoid those headshots. After taking several hard shots, Walters turned his back to the corner before getting dropped to the canvas. He beat the count only for his corner to stop the fight at the end of the round.
The Axe Man should step away from the sport for good. As for Torres, these are the kinds of wins that can elevate a young fighter to new heights.
