Marcos Maidana set to return at cruiserweight!
Marcos Maidana (36), is returning to boxing after all. Earlier this year we here at 3kingsboxing.com reported the former WBA welterweight champion was set to embark on a comeback after nearly five years out of the ring.
He had agreed to a three fight deal to return with PBC. However ,for numerous reasons that comeback fell through.
Having a change of mind again, Maidana is set to return to the ring in 2020 against 46 year-old heavyweight kickboxer Jorge Cali. The fight will be contested at the Cruiserweight limit.
The fight is expected to be set for April 2020 as a five round bout. The bout will be contested under the Queensbury rules. As of now, it is unclear if this bout will be part of the previously signed deal with PBC.
Maidana and Cali had been exchanging messages on social media discussing the possibility of a fight since January.
People in Maidana’s inner circle have admitted that this could be either a final hooray in the sport or could be a springboard into something bigger. That all depends on Maidana’s mental mindset.
Regardless of the decision to continue to fight on or call it a day once again, it’ll be good to see what the Argentine slugger has left in the gas tank. Or at the very least, see if he actually follows through this time on a comeback!
