Mares Wants Herring and to be Champion Again
Clearly, Abner Mares (31-3-1, 15 KO’s) is looking for all the smoke that he can find! Over the course of several days, Mares has taken to social media to express his interest in staging fights with a number of boxers in more than one division. At the top of his list, Mares has named lightweight Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (20-0, 17 KO’s) as his most desirable next outing.
Preparing for the situation in which he was not able to secure a showdown with Garcia, Mares publicly expressed his interest in colliding with IBF world super featherweight champion Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz (31-1, 15 KO’s). Likewise, Diaz has made it a public matter that he would love to test his skills in the ring against the former three division champion.
MARES THINKING ABOUT HERRING BOUT
However, Mares did not stop listing favorable would-be opponents when he named Diaz and Garcia. Another title holding combatant that Mares is keeping at the forefront of his mind is WBO world Super Featherweight champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring (21-2, 10 KO’s).
Always in the market for another title, Mares truly believes this would be a wonderful opportunity for himself. Herring is coming off his November 9, 2019 unanimous decision win over Lamont Roach (19-1-1, 7 KO’s) and is also in need of a dancing partner.
“Also, with all the respect, Jamel Herring, I remember he called me out as well. So that would be another good fight. All these are championship fights, all these are great fights that can happen and are in the works.”
FINISHING IN STYLE
Like any fighter worth their gloves and mouth guard, Mares is in the game to prove his moxie and to show that he is one of the best. Yet, he is fully aware that to prove these points, one must try their luck with the best around. And this is exactly what Abner Mares intends on doing so that he can ride off in the sunset in style.
“And at the end of the day, it is what I want. I want to fight the best and come back on top and retire being a world champion.”
