Barrios Retains Title With Wide Scorecard In Draw Against Ramos
WBC welterweight champion Marios “El Azteca” Barrios (29-2-1, 18KO) retained the title after getting a draw against Abel Ramos (28-6-3, 22KO).
From the opening bell, El Azteca controlled the fight with the jab and fought well off the front foot. He landed the right hand early, and in the second round put the challenger on the canvas from a perfect straight right hand.
In the sixth round, Ramos put the WBC champion on the canvas after landing a thunderous overhand right. With the champion hurt, he repeatedly landed the right hand as Barrios’ defense was non-existent.
Ramos was full of confidence and took advantage of the champion going backward with the head high by wobbling Barrios with another right hand. Barrios did a better job in the closing rounds by using the jab and attacking the body.
Barrios wasn’t out of the woods, as Ramos couldn’t miss with the right hand. However, he closed the show strong in the final round.
The fight ended in a draw as one judge scored it a ridiculous 116-110 for Barrios. One judge gave it to Ramos 114-112, and one had it 113-113.
