Marsellos Wilder speaks on lessons learned!
Ahead of his eighth professional fight, the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, Marsellos Wilder (5-1, 2KOs) will return on the under-card of his brother’s rematch with Luis Ortiz on November 23 against Dustin Long (2-1-2, 2KOs).
The professional ranks hasn’t been 100 percent pleasant to the younger Wilder thus far in his career. Back on January 26, he suffered a surprising fourth round knockout on the under-card of Keith Thurman vs Josesito Lopez at the Barclays Arena in Brooklyn, New York against William Deets (8-14, 3KOs).
Since that defeat, he has fought three times. He’s reeled off two consecutive victories while fighting to a no decision against Mark Sanchez (0-3).
So how much has Marsellos Wilder improved? He gave his own personal assessment in an interview with Tha Boxing Voice.
“The biggest thing I’ve learned thus far in my fights right now is pacing myself because when I first started, man I was trying to rush so much and knock these guys out.
“It was causing me to get a little winded quicker than I wanted to. So that’s the biggest lesson I’ve been learning is just pacing myself and picking my shots. Once I get a guy hurt then go for it”.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the work he’s been putting in the ring translates to fight night. Assessing him so far in his career, it’s clear that he lacks the fight-ending power his brother has.
However, him being 6’3 and athletic does bold well for him moving forward, especially if he’s able to develop his skill set.
