Savannah Marshall eyeing big fights outside of Claressa Shields

When making your bones as a professional boxer, obviously fighting the best competition is the best route to go. Yet, just because two boxers would make for a good fight doesn’t guarantee that they will meet in the ring. So far, such has been the case for WBO World middleweight champion Savannah “Silent Assassin” Marshall (10-0, 8 KO’s) and undisputed super welterweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (11-0, 2 KO’s). The two share a long standing history dating back to the amateurs when Marshall became the only person to defeat Shields.

Since Marshall turned pro, the talks of her dancing with T-Rex have been near constant. While the Silent Assassin understands what all of the hubbub is about, she does get tired of talking about the topic. This is mainly because Marshall, as she told to PEP Talk UK, thinks that there are a number of different prizefights that are exciting and worthwhile.

“I recently got told that she doesn’t want it for this year, so I’m just going to crack on with me career. There are big names out there for me, not just Claressa. You’ve got the two super middles, Elin Cederoos and Franchon Crews, who are boxing on the fourteenth of August for the undisputed super middle. I’d like to have a crack at the winner of them. There is also Hanna Gabriels who just became undisputed at light heavy, another big name. So there are some good fights out there for me, me career doesn’t begin and end with Claressa Shields.”

DOWN THE ROAD

As Marshall has pointed out herself, there are some tremendous fights taking place throughout women’s boxing. Even better, Marshall seems to be implying that she is willing to move around in weight to make some of these high profile bouts a reality. If these dustups make themselves available, and the Silent Assassin is a woman of her word, then we should have some interesting duels coming down the pike.

Marshall was in the ring a short three months ago tearing Maria Lindberg apart en route to a third round stoppage. So she is not in dire or desperate need of a fight, but evidently she is looking for things to come in the future.
