Martin Bakole Looking to Claim WBA Title From Daniel Dubois

Top-ranked heavyweight Martin Bakole (18-1, 13KO) burst onto the scene after an upset victory over Tony Yoka on May 14. Looking to get a title shot, he has taken aim at WBA ‘regular’ champion “Dynamite” Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18KO).

The 29-year-old from the Democratic Republic of The Congo is ranked #2 by WBA. Everyone in the division is on lockdown waiting for undisputed between unified champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC champion Tyson Fury. So a fight between Dubois and Bakole is an interesting match-up that fans can support.

On December 3, Dubois overcame the adversity of being knocked down three times in the first round before scoring the third-round stoppage against Kevin Lerena.

BAKOLE IS CONFIDENT IN BEING ABLE TO KNOCKOUT DUBOIS

During an interview with iFL TV, Bakole revealed that it was supposed to have been him instead of Lerena in that fight.

“Before he took Kevin Lerena, that fight was supposed to be me. His team [contacted us] and we said yes. But him, he said no . . . look what Kevin Lerena, a small heavyweight, look what he did to him in the first round. Imagine that was Martin Bakole that night.”

The #2 WBA contender is not surprised that team Dubois passed on the fight. Moreover, he is predicting a knockout whenever they fight.

“Dubois knows he can’t stand before me. He will get knocked out cold . . . very soon I’ll be mandatory, so [he can’t] run. Maybe [he will] just give up the belt and run away, or stay there and get knocked out.”
