Franchon Crews-Dezurn and Elin Cederroos Sign with Matchroom Boxing for Undisputed


Unified super middleweight champions Franchon “The Heavy Hitting Diva” Crews-Dezurn (7-1, 2ko) and Elin Cederroos (8-0, 4ko) have been on collision course for undisputed since 2020. Now that both fighters are contracted with DAZN promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, it is finally a reality.

THE PATH TO UNDISPUTED LONG IN THE MAKING

In 2021, this author spoke about the path both women took to get to this moment. The Swedish champion, Cederroos, defeated Femke Hermans for the vacant IBF title and dethroned Alicia Napoleon-Espinosa for the WBA crown. Furthermore, she has not fought since defeating Espinosa back in January 2020.

Crews-Dezurn’s road was a little bit bumpier. After losing a debut fight to two-divisional undisputed champion Claressa Shields, she bounced back winning both the WBC and WBO titles. Later, The Heavy Hitting Diva would taste defeat against Alejandra Jimenez. However, that got overturned when the Mexican female fighter tested positive for a banned substance. The unified champion did fight in 2021 in a light heavyweight bout against Ashleigh Curry.

The 33-year-old Virginia native has been calling for the undisputed showdown the entire year of 2021. Ironically, she called for undisputed while watching Shields fight then IBF middleweight champion Marie-Eve Dicaire for undisputed.

THE DREAM IS NOW A REALITY

Nobody can deny that Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing have been a major driving force and advocate for pushing women’s boxing in 2021. So this signing makes a lot of sense. Moreover, whoever is crowned undisputed will make history as the first-ever undisputed female super middleweight champion. In addition, they will join the ranks of Katie Taylor, Jessica McCaskill, Cecilia Breakhus, and Shields in the halls of undisputed fighters.

Both unified champions took to social media to celebrate with the fans and made it known they’re ready to seize the moment.
