Floyd Mayweather Says Ryan Garcia is Ducking Rolando “Rolly” Romero!
Within the lightweight division there is currently an open rivalry raging between Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15 KO’s), Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez (15-0, 12 KO’s), Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22 KO’s) and Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (20-0, 17 KO’s).
Out of this quartet of knuckle-chucker’s, three are world champions, with Haney holding the WBC lightweight title, Lopez possessing the IBF lightweight strap and Tank owning the regular WBA lightweight belt.
Without having yet claimed his own world title, Garcia has expressed interest in facing all these champions. However, boxing promoter Floyd “Money” Mayweather has hopped on the scene to tell Garcia to “pump his breaks!” The promoter/entertainer believes before KingRy continues his campaign to compete with a titlist, he should first face one of his up and coming young guns first.
DUCKING AND HIDING
Going a step further, Mayweather flat out said Garcia had already been roughed up and ran out the gym by lightweight Rolando “Rolly” Romero (11-0, 10 KO’s). At this point in the game, he says the Golden Boy prospect is out here running scared from Romero who is ranked #10 by the WBA.
To bolster his claims, the boxer turned fight hustler says he has video evidence and past offers.
“Like I said before, I’m not here to bash anyone, even the fighter Garcia. I’m not here to bash him, but this is the same fighter that came to the Mayweather gym and boxed Rolly and ran out the gym. This is the same fighter. No I wasn’t there but we got plenty of footage!
“Before you call out Devin Haney, before you call out the Lopez champion, before you call out Gervonta “Tank” Davis get passed Rolly first. I gave him this offer a long time ago! He’s ducking Rolly!
“All we got to do is like this, and once again I am not bashing the young fighter, but I speak the truth.”
WHAT YOU GONNA DO?!
It will be interesting to see how Garcia, who is extremely active on social media, responds to these shots taken by Floyd Mayweather. Prior to this, there were rumblings that he was ducking Romero Duno, whom he subsequently knocked out in the first round! Maybe this will entice Garcia into taking this fight.
Currently, he is ranked as the #2 WBA, #3 WBC and #2 WBO lightweight in the world. This leaves him obviously head and shoulders higher in the rankings than Romero.
Therefore, presuming that Garcia were to accept Mayweather’s offer and defeat Romero, is Mayweather saying he will set up a Garcia v Tank Davis showdown? If indeed this is the proposition that Money is making then perhaps that’s an offer that KingRy simply can’t refuse!
However, first we must see what Garcia has to say about all this.
Stay tuned for further developments into evolving public call out.
