Christian Mbilli Plans To Give Derevyanchenko his Toughest Fight

Top-ranked super middleweight contender Christian “Solide” Mbilli (27-0, 23 KOs) returns to the ring on August 17 to battle veteran and multiple-time world title challenger Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Canada. Mbilli hopes to do something no fighter has ever done and ensure The Technician doesn’t make it to the final bell.

Ranked number one by the WBC, Solide is on the verge of a world title shot. But he knows that he can’t lose focus. During an exclusive interview with Ring Magazine, the 29-year-old discussed his upcoming battle.

“There’s no doubt that it will be an action-packed fight. He’s not going to hide or run. We’re both offensive fighters, both throwing a lot of punches. Fans won’t want to miss this one. There’s going to be a lot of punches exchanged. I’m going to give him a war.”

DOING SOMETHING UNPRECEDENTED

Mbilli is arguably the most exciting fighter in the division and loves to bring the fight to his opponent. He has plenty of power in both hands, as evidenced by his most recent outing – a first-round knockout over Mark Heffron in May 2024 . The native of France ended matters with a vicious shot to the liver.

But Derevyanchenko has loads of experience against world-level competition. He also can take a hell of a punch. The 38-year-old went the distance against middleweight champions Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs, two fighters who had a reputation for being able to punch hard.

Solide is confident in his ability to hurt anyone he can hit. He thinks there’s a formula where he can stop the man from Ukraine.

“It’s hard to stop a fighter that is that solid, and that always leaves everything in the ring. You would have to be in terrific shape to stop him, which I think I am. I’m ready, physically and mentally, to give him the toughest fight of his career.”

If Mbilli can do that, it would be another example of his punching power. It would also move him one step closer to what he wants – a world title shot.
