Miguel Berchelt bout with Oscar Valdez to be postponed
WBC junior featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt (37-1, 33KOs) has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. This will likely postpone his December 12 fight with Oscar Valdez (28-0, 22KOs).
This matchup figured to be a possible Fight of the Year candidate, considering both men’s fighting styles and power-punching ability. Berchelt, who had been training for the fight in Mexico, was looking to move up to lightweight after this bout. With this news, it appears that this bout will likely see a move to 2021.
Valdez is looking to become a two-division world champion.
Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN.com deportes was the first to report the news of Berchelt’s positive test.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
