The Garcia fight will be tactical

When IBF and WBC world welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KO’s) next steps in the ring, many questions will be answered. This is because on December 5, he will face the challenge of Danny “Swift” Garcia (36-2, 21 KO’s). Not only is Garcia an elite talent in the sport, this is Spence’s first prizefight since his nasty automobile accident in 2019.

There is a very large perception that Junior is biting off more than he can chew in his premiere outing back. Yet, in his opinion, the Truth believes it would serve no purpose to take on lighter opposition. He feels that he is the still the best in the division and is eager to show it.

IM STILL KING!

If he topples Garcia, Spence’s mind-state is that no one can legitimately continue second guessing his physical or mental condition. And outside of the obtaining the win itself, as he revealed on the Last Stand Podcast, this does appear to be a motivating factor for him.

[When asked what a win over Garcia would mean] “It would be saying that I am the same. I am the same fighter, pinpoint, sharp, I’m accurate. Danny Garcia is a tough opponent, taking that as a comeback fight shows a lot. It says about myself and my ability and my skillset and just my mindset overall. So they’ll be saying he’s the same, he’s on the same path of trying to be the undisputed champion the 147 pound division.”

CHANGE IN BATTLE TACTICS

Yet, even while the Truth has no trepidation about facing Danny, he acknowledges he might have to tweak a few things. In his last duel in the ring, Spence went head-to-head with Shawn “Showtime” Porter (31-3-1, 17 KO’s). That bout was an all-out war and instant classic. Going into his prizefight with Swift however, Spence understands that same toe-to-toe playbook will not work.

“I feel this fight will go smooth for me. But he is not a pushover, he’s not much of a volume puncher, so it will just be tactical. I think the fight won’t be like the Shawn Porter fight, it was an all-out brawl slash fight. I think this will be more tactical, more pinpoint type of fight between me and him.”

In the end, only time will tell how this plays out!
