Jarrell Miller gets pulled from DAZN’s January 18 card due to “opponent issues”

Jarrell Miller has been improving his marketability “two-fold” over the past year with his activity. He fought three times in 2018 (twice on DAZN) and was scheduled to fight a fourth time in December. His December return was moved to January 18, however, he won’t be fighting on this day either.

His supposed opponent, Joey Dawejko (19-6-4, 11KOs), apparently had a disagreement with his purse (i.e. he wanted more money). An agreement could not be reached in time, therefore, the fight is now off.

For those interested, Dawejko is a former amateur standout turned journeyman as a professional. He fought twice in 2018, losing to both Andrey Fedosov and Bryant Jennings.

The Race to Anthony Joshua

So where does this leave Miller? Well, if fans recall, Anthony Joshua made a statement while in attendance for the Canelo Alvarez vs Rocky Fielding bout. He stated he now wants his next fight (April 13) to be at Madison Square Garden. Since making that statement, many speculated the next opponent would have to be Miller.

If fans can recall…again…the two had a “dust-up” during the DAZN roster announcement in July. The encounter was so fierce that many believed a punch would have been thrown in a different setting.

Furthermore, with recent news of Dillian Whyte turning down what he claimed was an “utterly ridiculous” offer to fight Joshua in April, who could be the guy? One issue to note, Miller is only ranked in the top ten for two of the three belts Joshua holds. The IBF does not have him ranked in the top fifteen!

Also, there are rumors circulating that Eddie Hearn has made Tyson Fury an offer to bypass a Deontay Wilder rematch.

Then there is Kubrat Pulev who was the IBF mandatory once scheduled to face Joshua in 2017, but pulled out due to an injury. Now he has fought his way back into a mandatory position with, yes, the IBF.

Nevertheless, time never stops for anyone so an opponent will need to be decided upon quickly. 3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor this story and provide any updates as they materialize.
