Mohamed Mimoune Defeats Tyrone McKenna With Body Shots


A devastating body attacks were the key for Frances’s welterweight Mohamed Mimoune (24-6, 5 KOs) who scored a dramatic fifth-round knockout over hometown fighter Tyrone McKenna (23-5-1, 6 KOs).

In the opening three rounds, the taller McKenna used his right jab to cause plenty of damage to Mimoune’s left eye. The Frenchman’s eye was nearly swollen shut at the end of the round

In the fourth, Mimoune fought with a renewed sense of urgency. He quickly discovered he could find success with landing shots on McKenna’s body. At the midway mark of the round, a right hook to the ribs put McKenna down. You could tell that the end was near.

In the opening thirty seconds of the fifth, Mimoune connected with a terrific straight left hand to the pit of McKenna’s stomach. This time, McKenna was not getting up, as he was on his knees writhing in pain.

It’s a big bounce-back win for Mimoune, who had lost his previous outing. As for McKenna, this is his second straight defeat. He has reached journey status in his career.
