Munguia vs Smith close to a deal
Earlier this month 3KingsBoxing.com reported that WBO junior middleweight titlist Jaime Munguia would be facing Liam Smith next. Smith was made the mandatory opponent for Munguia’s WBO title.
It was thought that the bout would eventually end up going to purse bid. However, both sides seem to have negotiated in good faith and are close to finalizing a deal.
The bout is likely to be scheduled for July in California with an exact date and venue yet to be determined. Ironically, Smith was supposed to face Sadam Ali for the title but ended pulling out of the bout. Munguia more than willingly stepped in and took Smith’s place.
Munguia, the 2017 Ring Magazine Prospect of the Year, walked right through Ali to win his first major world title. Smith on the other hand hasn’t been in the ring since defeating Liam Williams in November of last year.
Can Munguia keep his undefeated streak going against a tough rugged veteran like Smith. It’s obvious the experience is on Smith side but Munguia is a big jr middleweight that packs a punch. Can Smith take it and dish it? Soon we will have all the answers.
3KingsBoxing.com will give another update on the bout, once the date and venue become available.
