Abraham Nova Calls Out Emanuel Navarrete!

Prior to stepping in the ring with William Encarnación (19-2, 15KOs), IBF #10 ranked and #3 ranked WBO junior lightweight contender Abraham “El Super” Nova (21-0, 15KOs) made it clear who he wanted in his next fight. Fighting now as a featherweight, the Puerto Rican is locked-in on securing a fight with hard-hitting two-division WBO champion Emanuel Navarrete (35-1, 29KOs).

WHY HE DROPPED DOWN IN WEIGHT!

“You know a lot of things changed my decision to drop down to 126 pounds. Most likely because I saw that the division was open and it was easy for me to make the weight class. I feel like I was at 130 pounds for awhile and I still hadn’t gotten my title shot. I was ranked top five in the country and I still haven’t fought for a world title.

“I said let me go down to 126 and see if I can get a world title shot a lot quicker. I fit in very well in the featherweight division, I could land a title opportunity against Emanuel Navarrete. I feel like he’s the top guy, I feel like that’s the easiest fight to make with Top Rank because we’re with the same promotional company, and that’s the fight I would like to have.”

COME AND PROVE IT!

After disposing of Encarnación in eight rounds, Nova yet again laid down the challenge to Navarrete. This time he wasn’t so respectful towards the champion as he was in the pre-fight interview.

“I want him next, to be honest. Everybody thinks he’ll blow me out, knock me out. Put him in there, let’s see if he do it. I know I’ll beat him, I know I have the l punch output, […] I know I’ll be the next WBO world champion.”

“I told him I want the fight. If he considered the best then come and beat me! Everybody, all his fans say he can beat me…show your fans you can beat me, I want to see it. Because I know it’s not going to happen.

“I got the skills, I got the power, I got the IQ to beat you. I have everything…I have the size. I’m not the little guys that you’re fighting.”

Obviously this fight has war written all over it. These two hard-hitters have aggressive, come-forward styles. Navarrete is a guy who throws tons of punches behind a good jab. He’s also very patient and accurate with his punch placement. Nova, on the other hand, is the better boxer and gets stronger as the fight goes on. Currently without an opponent for his 2022 ring debut, it would be nice to see Vaquero accept the challenge of El Super Nova and to stoke the already deep Mexico v Puerto Rico rivalry.
