Jamaine Ortiz Outperforms Nahir Albright In ShoBox Main Event!

On February 18 at the Caribe Royale Orlando, in Orlando, Florida, USA lightweight prospects Jamaine Ortiz (15-0-1, 8KOs) and Nahir “Woo” Albright (14-2, 7KOs) showcased their talents under the bright lights of Showtime’s Shobox series in the ten-round main event. Ironically enough, these two fighters were set to face off back in November of 2020 on the undercard of Mike Jones vs Roy Jones Jr’s five-round exhibition pay-per-view. However, an elbow injury would force Albright to withdraw from the fight.

Ortiz came out looking to impress against Albright. The Massachusetts native is a rugged, all-action fighter. Although that mindset and fighting style cost him his perfect record after being dropped twice against Joseph Adorno in his last ring outing, resulting in a majority draw.

Albright, who was born in Philadelphia, is not only a boxer but also an R&B singer. He has one loss on his record, which came in his pro debut in 2016. Ever since that loss, he’s been perfect, reeling off fourteen consecutive victories.

ORTIZ SHOWS OUT!

Albright started the fight by pumping his jab that would be followed by a quick right hand. Ortiz elected to be patient, not throwing much of anything until late in the round, when he unleashed a quick flurry of punches on Albright against the ropes. Rounds two and three were all Ortiz. He started to show the gap in skills. His speed and combination punching often left Albright confused. The left hook, in particular, was a key punch for the technician.

Ortiz was feeling himself in round six as he came out with his hands down by his side. This tactic pretty much invited Albright to attack, which he had little success with. Instead, he was countered from the ropes and beat to the punch. A firefight broke out in round eight as both men traded big punches to the head and body.

After dominating the majority of the fight, Ortiz was announced as the victor by way of a unanimous decision. The scores were 98-92 and 97-93×2.
