WBA Gold welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz misses weight!

Ahead of his last assignment of the year, talented welterweight prospect Vergil Ortiz Jr (14-0, 14 KO’s) missed weight. Ortiz is slated to face Brad “King” Solomon (28-1, 9 KO’s) in the main event of a DAZN card to be hosted in the Fantasy Springs Casino which is located in Indio, California.

When the two men tipped the scales, Solomon satisfied his obligation by coming in at a ready and trim 146.8lbs. Ortiz on the other hand came in a full pound over the limit at 148lbs. Ortiz has two hours to melt off the excess 16 ounces.

Ortiz is a blue-chip prospect and current WBA Gold champion from Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy stable. The relatively soft spoken fighter so far has been a heavy-handed scourge to his opponents.

To date, Ortiz has won all fourteen of his professional prizefights by way of knockout. Due to the apparent limitless upside of his potential career there are many high hopes attached to this young boxer. His missing weight comes as a true surprise.

Solomon is looking to make a name for himself by stealing the show from his overweight foe. To date the elusive boxer has faced Demetrius Hopkins, Freddy Hernandez, Adrian Granados and Konstantin Ponomarev.

Except for Ponomarev, King Solomon has defeated them all. If Solomon was able to defeat Ortiz it would stand as a major feather in his cap.
