De La Hoya Turns Away Haney & Takes A Shot At Eddie Hearn

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya rejected WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney’s (31-1, 15KO) request. In addition, he took a shot at Matchroom Boxing Chairman Eddie Hearn in the process.

De La Hoya has never warmed up to Hearn entering the American boxing scene. He made it very clear that the British promoter should stay in the United Kingdom.

He recently posted a message on social media calling for war against Hearn.

“No promoter is coming into my territory and think they can take over ‘my’ sport!! This is war!!! This is aimed towards a person who doesn’t know shit about boxing!!”

Despite not mentioning the rival promoter’s name, boxing fans knew who the Golden Boy CEO was referring to. This message was posted several days after his fighter, Garcia, was victorious over Haney on April 20.

SORRY NO REMATCH BUT GOOD LUCK

The Dream took to social media letting fans know he was okay and emphasized having a fair fight at an agreed-upon weight.

Some boxing fans believe that Garcia coming in 3.2 pounds over the contractual weight played a huge factor in the fight. It’s worth mentioning that Team Haney didn’t make him lose the weight, so it is kind of tough to call foul.

De La Hoya had something to say about Haney’s proposal and used the opportunity to throw another shot in Hearn’s direction.

The issue between these two promoters began when undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez left Golden Boy to join Matchroom Boxing. Despite once calling on all promoters to come together to save boxing including Hearn, De La Hoya still seems to be carrying a grudge.
