Jones Claims The Title In Hard Fought Battle Against Hermans
In a showdown for the IBF junior middleweight title, Oshae “Suga” Jones (8-0, 3KO) took the title away from the veteran champion Femke “Thunder” Hermans (18-5, 7KO).
The early rounds, Thunder confused the younger challenger by moving and switching offensive stances. The champion used the jab to keep Suga at bay and found a home for the right hand.
Jones fighting under the watchful eye of Bozy Ennis, father of IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis, adjusted quickly. She put the champion on the back foot with hard body shots and counter hooks.
Despite having swelling above the right eye from a headbutt, Jones put together several offensive attacks that hurt the Belgium champion in the middle rounds.
Yet, Hermans didn’t come to fight and found a home for the right hand. She did a good job of returning fire after getting hit with countershots.
They went to war in the final rounds. Hermans marched forward, applying pressure while throwing combinations. Yet, Jones dialed up the power and landed the more eye-catching shots.
One judge scored it 97-93 for Hermans with two judges scoring 97-93, and 96-94 for Jones.
