O’Shaquie Foster Unifies Titles at 130 with Navarrete Victory; Undisputed Next?
Fighting on the biggest stage of his career, O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster delivered a masterful performance against Emanuel Navarrete, earning a unanimous decision victory (115-111, 118-108 twice) to become the WBC, WBO, and IBF junior lightweight champion. With three world titles now in his possession, Foster’s next objective is to become the undisputed champion at 130 pounds.
Foster (26-3, 12 KOs) was more aggressive than usual, showcasing his superior boxing skills and controlling much of the action over the first six rounds. Navarrete (40-3-1, 33 KOs) attempted to turn the tide by applying increased pressure, but his efforts proved largely ineffective. Foster consistently countered his Mexican opponent with sharp right hands to the head and an impressive body attack.
During the championship rounds, Foster demonstrated that he could do more than outbox his opponent. Standing his ground in the pocket, the Texan turned up the power and sealed his victory by knocking Navarrete down twice in the closing rounds.
A NEW LEVEL FOR ICE WATER
It was the kind of statement-making performance that could change how the boxing world views Foster. He may have established himself as one of the sport’s elite fighters with his commanding victory over Navarrete.
Foster has now collected three of the four major world titles at junior lightweight. This leaves him one step away from achieving undisputed status. His performance also sends a clear message to the division: he is not simply looking to defend his titles but is prepared to take on the best available opposition to cement his legacy.
THE ROAD TO UNDISPUTED
During his post-fight interview, Foster made his intentions clear by calling for the winner of the December 19 showdown between WBA junior lightweight champion Anthony Cacace and former WBA featherweight champion Nick Ball. Either opponent would give Foster an opportunity to capture the remaining major title and complete his collection at 130 pounds.
After dismantling a dangerous and accomplished champion in Navarrete, Foster has earned the right to pursue that opportunity. One final fight is all that stands ahead to become the undisputed king of the junior lightweight division.
