Manny Pacquiao needs to pick someone soon

There has been so much news dropping that it will make your head spin. Just when it seems things are going in one direction, they take an immediate U-turn. This is the situation with seven-divisional champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39ko) and four-divisional champion Mikey Garcia (40-1, 30ko).

The Filipino senator has been busy scouting potential opponents for a 2021 return. First, there was WBC Interim Lightweight champion Ryan Garcia. He did an about-face after stalking Gervonta Davis for the possibility of facing the Pac Man.

Mikey Garcia announced his plans of fighting Pacquiao hopefully in July. However, shortly afterward, things went radio silent from team Garcia. Finally, news dropped that WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford was in talks to fight the senator. This was major news, especially given the growing disapproval of the fans on the quality of his recent opponents.

Then out of nowhere, things came crashing down so fast fans did not get a chance to brace for impact when it was reported Crawford vs Pacquiao was dead.

REVISITING A PREVIOUSLY NAMED OPPONENT

Now, it seems Pac Man is looking to double back towards Mikey Garcia for a handsome payday. According to a PhilStar Global local Philippines news, team Pacquiao is close to finalizing a deal to fight in Dubai against the four-divisional champion. This news came from Arnold Vegafria, the business manager of the Filipino senator.

Equally important, July or August are the targeted months, and a formal announcement is said to come from the head of PSM Audie Attar. At this point, this news will be taken with a grain of salt by some fans, and rightfully so considering how supposedly the Crawford fight was good to go until it was deemed dead.

Pacquiao has not stepped into the squared circle since dethroning Keith “One Time” Thurman back in July 2019. In boxing, Father Time is the biggest enemy of all fighters, and the longer Pacquiao sits out away from the sport, the more his skillset can diminish and have a negative effect on the body in training camp.
