Pacquiao’s Team Denies That Matthysse Fight Is In Doubt

Longtime Pacquiao manager calls reports “fake news”

Multiple reports surfaced yesterday out of Argentina that the upcoming fight between Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao and Argentine Lucas Matthysse was in jeopardy of being cancelled. According to Pacquiao manager Michael Koncz however those reports aren’t true.

Koncz did say there was some delays with tickets and other stuff but that the reports were “fake news” and that the “fight is 100% on”. Tycsports.com initially reported the news yesterday evening and others followed suit.

At the time it was initially reported we were unable to get a comment from either team. Now that Koncz has answered we can say that the eight division champion will be back in the ring in July.

Pacquiao is at the very end of a first ballot hall of fame career at 39-years-old and the fight with the Argentine native is considered by some to be a serious risk. Although Pacquiao will be a slight betting favorite, Matthysse is a live dog in any fight with his power.

There’s still some question about how the fight will be broadcast in America although Bob Arum said last week the fight would be PPV. There is some murmurs that it may take place on the ESPN Plus platform. At least we have a fight again, for now.
