Paddy Donovan Continues Upward Climb By Besting Lewis Ritson
Irish welterweight Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan (14-0, 11 KOs) kept his unbeaten record in with a ninth-round stoppage over Lewis Ritson (23-4, 13 KOs) at the Direct Arena in Leeds, England.
The left Donovan is a boxer by nature. He used his jab, movement, and solid counterpunching to score and keep Ritson at pay in the early rounds. At the halfway mark, the Irishman began to fight more flat-footed and in the center of the ring and landed power punches to the head and body.
At the last minute of the eighth, Donovan began to tee off, and you could see Ritson start to feel the effect of the shots. In the opening minute of round nine, The Real Deal continued to pour on the punches. With Ritson wilting, the referee wisely called a halt to the contest. Currently ranked eleventh by the WBA, Donovan is a welterweight on the ascend.
