Joseph Parker Speaks on Fight Contract for Joe Joyce Fight
Following numerous ups and downs in their negotiation process, heavyweights Joseph “Lupesoliai La’auliolemalietoa” Parker (30-2, 21 KO’s) and “Juggernaut” Joe Joyce (14-0, 13 KO’s) finally have a fight date. The two big men will come together on September 24 under the hot lights of the Manchester Arena. With all the haggling in his review mirror, Parker took the time to explain to IFL TV some of the woes that he had to suffer during this process.
“It was torturous! Listen, if we shake someone’s hand for a one fight deal and you change it to a three fight deal then the contract keeps changing! How torturous is that?! You promise this, you promise that then all of a sudden a contract comes back and its changed. So, I’ll only sign a contract if there’s right terms and what we all agree too. But if you agree to something and it keeps changing why would I sign the deal?”
OFF WITH HIS HEAD!
Now that the legal business has been put to bed, Parker can now focus entirely on preparing himself for this new challenge. When last in the ring, the New Zealander picked up a solid unanimous decision over the ever-fight-hungry Dereck Chisora. The win was actually an immediate rematch from their initial encounter, back on May 1, 2021, which Parker won by split decision.
In fact, Lupesoliai La’auliolemaloietoa is on a four-year, six-fight win streak since suffering back-to-back losses to Anthony Joshua and then Dillian Whyte. As a reward for his hard work, Parker holds the #2 (WBO), #3 (WBC) and #6 (IBF) rankings. Unsurprisingly the confident bruiser doesn’t feel like Joyce, ranked #1 (WBO), #2 (WBC) and #5 (IBF), can do anything with him in the ring. Luckily for us, it’s a short wait until September 24 when Parker will have his chance to show and prove in the ring!
