Caleb Plant responds to statments David Benavidez made after he defeated Jose Uzcategui
Newly crowned, undefeated IBF Super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant had to address some negative remarks by former WBC champion David Benavidez.
He is coming off the most important fight of his career; fulfilling a promise to his daughter of being a world champion.
The 26 year-old is now aware of Benavidez’s comments that his interviews are more exciting than his fights. The champion would respond with some verbal jabs of his own saying
“I want to fight a mandatory or a world champion. Is he either one of those? Okay, I’m just making sure. If he can keep his nose clean then maybe we can figure something out.”
Plant is referring to reports of a positive test for cocaine performed by VADA that resulted in the stripping of Benavidez’s title. There seems to be a little rivalry between the two combatants.
Immediately following the Uzcategui contest, when asked about the former champion, he would reply “Is he a champion?”
Benavidez, was the youngest titleholder in boxing and is no stranger to drama. Last year, he was involved in pending legal issues between Top Rank and Sampson Boxing.
The super middleweight division is becoming one of the most interesting divisions in boxing. A fight between both men would be huge and hopefully, something that happens later this year!
