Kenny Porter says Shawn Porter is more focused on Spence than Crawford!
For the past several weeks WBO world welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (36-0, 27 KO’s) has received boatloads of flak from the general boxing community.
Frustrated that no real progress has materialized in securing a fight between Bud and unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr (26-0, 21 KO’s), the boxing world is demanding that Crawford move on the next best challenge.
For many, this “next best” opportunity has manifest in the physical form of Shawn “Showtime” Porter (30-3-1, 17 KO’s).
Porter has one of the most impressive resumes currently in the welterweight division and he is coming off a wildly entertaining, razor-thin loss to Spence Jr. To those in the know there is not a much better option outside of Showtime.
THE FEELING IS MUTUTAL
Unfortunately, for the fight fans Crawford has shown virtually no interest in facing Porter. By Bud’s math, Porter is both a great friend and a belt-less boxer, which makes him a very unpalatable selection.
This outward unwillingness to openly pursue a fight with Showtime has only caused folks to get more irritated with Bud.
The irritation is more heavily concentrated with Crawford due to the perception that Porter, if given the chance, would face Bud. Showtime has openly said he would fight Crawford and he has already fought Spence who he also shares a friendship with.
This is why most feel that Crawford remains the major impediment to the realization of this juicy dust-up.
However, in a recent interview conducted with Blue Blood Sports TV, Kenny Porter, Shawn’s father and chief second, has let it be known that the WBO champion is not on top of Showtime’s wish list either.
Certainly, Shawn would tangle with Bud if the stars so lined up that way, but he feels as though he has bigger fish to fry first.
“I think that both of them are probably looking at other fighters, not just because of their friendship, but they are looking at other fighters because that’s what they want.
“I think, and I can’t speak for Bud, but I think with Shawn, he definitely wants to do the rematch with Errol Spence.
“That’s something that’s bothering him that he wants to go after again. We’ll see what happens with that.”
