Regis Prograis Announces November 26 Fight Date with Jose Zepeda
3Kings Boxing previously reported that Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (27-1, 23 KOs) would face Jose Zepeda (35-2, 27 KOs) for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title. On September 30, “Rougarou” made the following announcement on social media to reveal more details.
READY FOR BATTLE
“Me and Zepeda, we fighting in L.A. (Los Angeles) on November 26. Now I know it’s going to happen. Now, I can lock in and really be focused. It’s killer versus killer, southpaw versus southpaw.
I’m hungry to become a two-time world champion; he hungry to be a world champion. So, it’s about to go down bro, I can’t wait.”
The WBC 140-pound title became vacant after the previous champion, Josh Taylor, decided to vacate the belt. Zepeda was to face one-time unified champ Jose Luis Ramirez for their vacant title, but Ramirez withdrew due to his impending marriage. In July 2022, the WBC placed Prograis as a substitute opponent.
Ranked second by the WBC, Prograis had previously held the WBA junior welterweight Super title when he TKO’d Kiryl Relikh in six rounds in April 2019. He lost that title by majority decision to then-IBF champion Taylor in the WBSS junior welterweight tournament finals. Zepeda is a previous world title challenger. In February, he lost a nip-and-tuck majority decision to then-WBC champ Ramirez in February 2019.
On paper, Prograis – Ramirez is full of potential. Both men can punch with both hands. Defense is neither of their strong suits. Each is desperate to win a world title. Those are the ingredients of an entertaining, explosive battle. While Prograis failed to disclose on what network the fight will be aired, both fighters are signed with Top Rank. Expect it to be on either ESPN or ESPN Plus.
