Lightweight Prospect Emiliano Vargas Continues to Impress

When last engaged in combat, this past August 12, lightweight prospect Emiliano Vargas (6-0, 5 KO’s) picked up his sixth professional win. In that contest, his fourth of the year, he laid waste to Jorge Alvarado by stopping him in the second round of the four round fight. The win now stretches Vargas’s current knockout streak to three. To this point however, Vargas’s high caliber performances are to be expected.

Some might say that Emiliano Vargas was born and built for the limelight of boxing. This is due to him being the son of former super welterweight champion “Ferocious” Fernando Vargas. Looking to pass on more than just his genetics, Vargas also functions as his son’s chief second. It would appear that the senior Vargas is doing a great job thus far. After a successful amateur career, Emiliano turned professional and signed a multi-fight deal with promotional powerhouse Top Rank .

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

It will be interesting to see what Top Rank has in store for Vargas in 2024. Undoubtedly they plan on keeping him busy while he grinds his teeth on his present competition. Top Rank has a well-established reputation of moving and matching their fighters very strategically in their developmental years.

While Vargas is quite some ways away from challenging for a title, he is housed in one of the more visible and competitive divisions in the post. So given his pedigree, talent and influential backers, it will be intriguing to see how Vargas’s career unfolds in the months and years to come.
