Harvin Aguirre Starting to Make a Name For Himself At 147lbs
With fighters such as Hall of Fame Inductee Alexis Arguello and four-division champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, the country of Nicaragua has made its imprint in the history of this boxing. The next fighter from that boxing-rich nation aspiring to create a legacy for himself is welterweight prospect Harvin “Manimal” Aguirre (13-0, 9 KOs).
Manimal turned pro in February 2021. After three fights in the paid ranks, he relocated operations from his native country to Panama City, Panama, where he currently lives and trains.
THE BUILDING BLOCKS FOR SUCCESS
Activity is critical for any up-and-coming fighters. It’s where you develop and hone your skills, gain confidence, and learn what it takes to be a professional. That has been the case for Aguirre, who is starting to create a buzz in the Latin American boxing market.
After fighting six times in 2023, he kept busy with three fights in 2024. His most recent outing was a ten-round unanimous decision over veteran Alberto “Metralleta” Mosquera on August 16 in Panama City.
Aguirre got off to an excellent start and knocked Mosquera down with a body shot in round five. Fighting in his first ten-round contest, Manimal showed some signs of fatigue in the last couple of rounds. Yet, he did more than enough work in the early and middle rounds to ensure victory.
The 6-foot-tall Aguirre is a big 147lb fighter. He has a solid left jab and is a fluid combination puncher. The kid understands the value of an inside attack and is adept at body punching. He does have some things that he needs to work on, like shortening up his shots.
His handlers believe that with his size and power, the 24-year-old Aguirre has real promise and can do some big things. Given his physical tools, Manimal is someone to keep an eye on in the future.
