Jason Quigley talks Demetrius Andrade!
On November 19, number ten ranked WBO middleweight contender Jason Quigley (19-1, 14KOs) will get a shot at world title glory when he takes on Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (30-0, 18KOs). The two will face-off in Manchester, New Hampshire, a little over two hours away from Andrade’s hometown of Rhode Island.
Quigley, 30, is a significant underdog heading into this matchup. He has never fought anyone near the level of the WBO champion. However, as good or great a fighter he is, every fighter has a weakness or two. So what is Andrade’s? Quigley told Behind The Gloves the following on what he sees as weaknesses in the champion.
“Doesn’t matter how great a fighter you are. Canelo, [Gennady] Golovkin, Floyd Mayweather, Muhammad Ali, they all had weakness. Yes, we’ve studied Andrade and he definitely has a few weaknesses. He’s very wide and reckless. He throws his head a lot, he’s a little bit all over the place and out of sorts at times. I think he tires a lot in fights as well, his engine doesn’t seem to be great. But you know I can’t expect these things to come in and happen now in this fight. Everything he’s been doing wrong in his career so far, I’m expecting him to be better in these, improving in these; exactly what I’m doing in my career.”
Quigley’s assessment isn’t totally incorrect. Andrade, at times, has shown that he can be wild and reckless in previous fights. He’s athletic and very awkward which often times leads to him looking goofy, although it’s clear it’s a method to his madness. Through 33 pro fights, not one opponent has been able to figure him out and hand him defeat.
It’ll be interesting to see what Quigley’s game plan and approach is once he steps in the ring with the talented two-division world champion. It’s clear by his comments he’s been following Andrade throughout his career. Will he be able to make it competitive, or even pull off a major upset? Come November 19, we’ll all find out the answer.
