Robeisy Ramirez Upset by Adan Gonzales in Pro Debut!
Two time Olympic Gold Medalist Robeisy Ramirez, making his pro debut after a storied amateur career, looked less than stellar.
The Breakdown
In the opening round, both men came out aggressively exchanging leather. Here, Ramirez would make a mistake that would prove costly. In close quarters, he would leave himself exposed after dropping his right hand. Gonzales would capitalize with an overhand left that would send Ramirez to the canvas.
Through the fight’s progression, it was evident that this would be anything but smooth sailing for Ramirez. The lack of jabbing and constant defensive mistakes of retreating with his hands down and chin exposed would lead to his undoing. Finally, the aggressive effectiveness of Gonzales would prove to be too much for Ramirez.
Conclusion
At the end, the right guy would be declared the winner, as Adan Gonzales would secure a split decision victory to pull off a major upset!
Going into this fight, Gonzales was 4-2-2. With this win, he’s sure to get another big fight opportunity. It should be pointed out that at age 22, there’s no need to rush him as he looks to get his career back on track after this significant upset win!
As for Ramirez, this is obviously not the debut he envisioned, but it’s the debut he’ll have to learn from. He needs to go back to the drawing board, watch film, and maybe bring in a new trainer. That’ll be able to teach him the pro style he’ll need to adapt if he wants to become a champion.
