John Ramirez and Manny Flores Decision Foes on Ramirez vs Padilla Card
Going ten rounds for the first time in his career, fast-rising junior bantamweight John “Scrappy” Ramirez (11-0, 8 KOs) pounded out a unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91, 99-91) win over durable Luis Villa Padilla (15-4-2, 2 KO) at Fantasy Springs in Indio, California. Hurting Padilla in the early rounds, Scrappy had his way throughout in what was a one-way beating.
Ramirez is currently ranked second by the WBA at 115. His dream fight is a showdown against the reigning WBA champion, Joshua Franco. That’s not happening in the foreseeable future. Franco is currently in negotiationS for a rematch with four-division champion Kazuto Ioka. Understanding this reality, Ramirez anticipates next up will be a WBA title eliminator, which would likely be against WBA number-three ranked junior bantamweight Sirichai Thaiyen.
MANNY FLORES GETS SPLIT DECISION OVER FRANKLIN GONZALEZ
Unbeaten junior featherweight prospect Manny “Gucci” Flores (15-0, 11 KOs) took home an eight-round split-decision victory over Franklin Gonzalez (25-2, 25 KOs) (77-74, 77-74 for Flores, 76-75 for Gonzalez).
Flores vs Gonzalez was a close, back-and-forth battle from the opening bell. Flores knocked Gonzalez down in the fifth, and was the slightly better man over the second half of the contest. For the up and coming Flores, this was by far the toughest fight of his young career.
