Ford Looks Strong In New Division Against Gonzalez
In his first fight in the division, super featherweight boxer “Savage” Raymond Ford (16-1-1, 8 KO’s) defeated Orlando “Capu” Gonzalez (23-3, 13 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision. The win was all the more sweet as Ford bounced back from his only career loss to Nick Ball.
Right from the start of the contest with Gonzalez, Savage was in firm control using his sturdy, thumping jab and relaxed aggression to easily dictate the action and pace. It actually looked like it’d be a short night when Savage clobbered Capu with a sharp right hook in the second that sat him down under the ropes.
In impressive fashion, Gonzalez found his feet and survived to the end of the period. Outside of showing a great deal of heart and macho theatrics for the benefit of the crowd, Gonzalez did little worth noting anywhere during the prizefight. To add insult to injury, Capu was floored once again with the same right hook that had plagued him for the entire bout.
Once again, he beat the count and made it to the bell. Gonzalez would spend the entire tenth round on his bike. Unsurprisingly, when the duel went to the scorecards, Ford prevailed by unanimous decision by the wide margin of 99-90 and 100-88 (twice).
