Expensive Snack! Redkach Fined and Suspended!

Boy,oh boy, well it seems that January 25 was an all-around bad day for Ukrainian boxer Ivan “El Terrible” Redkach (23-5-1, 18 KO’s)! From the very beginning few people outside of Redkach’s team, most die-hard fans and mother gave him a shot at beating former two-divisional champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (36-2, 21 KO’s). The two went head-to-head in the main event at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

PROPHECY CONFIRMED

Nevertheless, throughout the entire pre-fight build-up Redkach told all who listen that he was going to knockout Swift come fight night. Once in the ring however, it was clearly illustrated that he was well out of his depth. For twelve full rounds Redkach was outclassed, outgunned and efficiently tuned up by Garcia in route to a unanimous decision loss.

In fact, the bad night in the office became so frustrating that Redkach literally bit Danny Garcia in the shoulder during a clinch. Despite the outrageous nature of the foul, Garcia suffered minor damage and joked about the incident at length after the bout concluded. Obviously the New York Athletic Commission was in no laughing mood.

THREW THE BOOK AT HIM!!

After reaching out to the New York State Athletic Commission, 3kingboxing.com received this official response:

The New York State Athletic Commission is taking the following disciplinary action against Mr. Ivan Redkach for biting Mr. Garcia’s shoulder during the eighth round:

· Mr. Redkach was issued the maximum fine of $10,000 for engaging in dangerous, disorderly and unsportsmanlike conduct.

· Mr. Redkach’s license as a professional boxer is suspended for a year.

· Mr. Redkach’s purse from the bout shall be forfeited and paid to the Commission.

Mr. Redkach has the right to challenge these penalties if he so chooses with a formal hearing.

Wow.

While Ivan Redkach was dead wrong for his action, and did warrant some form of disciplinary action, this comprehensive punishment comes off as a bit excessive.

The only minor glimmer of hope that Redkach has left is knowing that he can appeal the decision in a formal hearing. Yet, even if the penalty is lessened, it appears that that no matter what, the New York State Athletic Commission will take a chunk out of El Terrible’s hide! Whether this punishment is extreme or just right, you better believe Ivan Redkach won’t be biting any more opponents in the future!
