Regis Prograis still wants to fight Adrien Broner

Former WBA junior welterweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (25-1, 21ko) is on the hunt for the scalp of four-division champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33-4-1, 24ko). Rougarou ended 2020 with a devastating third-round knockout victory over rising Mayweather Promotion’s fighter Juan Heraldez (16-1-1, 10ko). This was his first fight back after suffering his first career defeat against unified champion Josh Taylor in the World Boxing Super Series tournament back in 2019.

In 2020, the former world champion sent social media in a frenzy when word got out he had split from promoter Lou DiBella. As a hot free agent, he signed a one-fight deal with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions. This was an important career move, especially given that PBC has the welterweight division on lockdown with the majority of the biggest names. Furthermore, the New Orleans native’s desire to one day compete at welterweight makes it a logical decision to go where the big fights can be easily made.

THE BACKSTORY

In 2019, these two former world champions crossed paths in a social media war of words that had the boxing community’s attention. Equally important, it was kicked-off when the Ohio native took shots at the former WBA champion.

“Man everybody keeps talking about Regis Prograis! I’ll beat the fuck out of buddy, no cap. So the blog, y’all can send that to him. I don’t give a fuck ,I’m right here! I’ll fuck buddy up.”

Broner, shortly after all that, abruptly retired from the sport. However, that did not keep Rougarou from clapping back, calling the Ohio boxer “A clown” in a social media video.

AN OLD NEMESIS STILL ON THE RADAR

Recently, news broke of the four-divisional champion looking to make a comeback after a two-year layoff since losing to WBA ‘Super’ champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao back in 2019.Broner claimed to have finally seen the light and is reborn. Moreover, he is left without a dance partner after Mexican fighter Pedro Campa (31-1-1, 21ko) tested positive for COVID.

During an interview with 3kingsboxing affiliate Pep Talk UK, Rougarou was asked about fighting Broner now that it seems that door has opened again.

“I think me and Broner is going to fight, it’s a big, big possibility. At first, I thought it was far-fetched, but now Broner is coming back, it looks like he is serious, and I think that fight is a big possibility. It might be this year or early next year.”

“I can’t wait, I’ve been calling out Broner for a long-time, and I can’t wait….. I think I would fuck Broner up, I think I would whoop the shit out of Broner.”
