Top Rank Should Look At Making Torrez vs Anderson A Reality
In a heavyweight showdown, Richard Torrez Jr (13-0, 11KO) defeated Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello (13-3-1, 11KO). Torrez and fellow stablemate Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson could fight to see who deserves to be pushed into the spotlight by Top Rank.
The early portion of the fight was riddled with clinches and headbutts that saw The Gladiator deducted a point. Yet, things got heated in the second half as both men made adjustments and landed hard shots.
Vianello took advantage of Torrez’s lack of head movement and landed brutal right hands. But, down the strength, the Olympic silver medalist turned up the pressure and picked up the unanimous decision (98-91 twice, and 97-92).
When looking at what’s next, a fight with Big Baby is worthy of discussion. Anderson, once seen as the next American heavyweight champion, is now viewed as a bust. His mental mindset has come under heavy criticism, especially after losing to Martin Bakole.
These two are no strangers to each other, as Torrez defeated Anderson in the amateurs. Honestly, this should be an easy fight for Anderson, but given his questionable desire to fight, Torrez could pull off another win over a highly ranked contender.
