Guillermo Rigondeaux: Naoya Inoue is no monster!
Former unified WBA and WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (19-1, 13KO) will return to action February 8. He will be fighting Liborio Solis (30-5-1, 14KOs) for the vacant WBA bantamweight title on the under-card of the Gary Russell vs Tugstsogt Nyambayar WBC featherweight title fight.
The Cuban fighter is still fighting for respect following his contest in December of 2017 against Vasyl Lomachenko. He would lose that fight by quitting on the stool, the ultimate “no-no” as a fighter. Still, that hasn’t stopped the former champion from voicing his opinion on one of the best fighters in the world, Naoya Inoue (19-0, 16KOs).
In an interview with Fighthype, Rigondeaux shared his sentiments on the “monster”.
“Why is he a monster? He’s human just like me.
“The only guy he’s beaten is Donaire, the other guys we don’t know.”
A victory on February 8 could propel Rigondeaux into a position to challenge Inoue. That would be truly a great opportunity to redeem himself against a guy who’s considered a top 5 pound for pound fighter.
