Guillermo Rigondeaux Returns to Action!
This June 23, the ultra-talent Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (18-1, 12 KO’s) will return to action again at featherweight. On that date, Rigondeaux will face the challenge of Julio “Politio” Ceja (32-3, 28 KO’s) on the undercard of Toney Harrison vs Jermell Charlo 2.
The bout will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino located in Las Vegas, Nevada. FOX will televise the event.
Rigondeaux already stepped in the ring once in 2019, when he fought Giovanni Delgado (16-8, 9 KO’s) on January 13. Admittedly, Delgado, who the Jackal stopped in the first round, was a soft touch.
Prior to the Delgado bout, the former pound-for pound fighter had been out of the ring since his crushing loss to Vasyl Lomachenko in December 2017. The bout was highly anticipated throughout much of the boxing world.
When the two finally linked in the ring, the fight devolved into a totally one-sided affair where many believe Rigondeaux quit. Following the deflating loss, “The Jackal” faded into oblivion.
With his feet back wet with Delgado, the Cuban phenom is looking to step up the competition…slightly!
Ceja is himself coming off a stoppage loss to Franklin Manzanilla back in May 2018. Furthermore, Ceja has not been in the win column since besting Breilor Teran (20-14-1) in November 2017.
It’s safe to say that Rigondeaux’s fall from grace has been fast and steep! Hopefully for Team Rigo, the time away and returning to the super bantamweight division will translate into a beneficial win streak!
