Diego De La Hoya retires after a war with Ronny Rios!
Looking to pick up the most significant win of his career, Diego De La Hoya would take on former world title challenger Ronny Rios. The fight ended up being one that would test the mettle of both men.
After an lackluster opening round where both men threw very few punches, the action picked up immediately in the second round!
After De La Hoya was buzzed with a hard right hand, the war would commence! The two would spend the remainder of round two dropping bombs on each other.
As the fight progressed, leather kept being exchanged at a blistering pace. Rios repeatedly hit De La Hoya with left hook after left hook. Meanwhile, the cousin of Hall of Fame fighter Oscar De La Hoya wouldn’t be outdone as he would answer back with thudding shots of his own.
Going into the sixth round, the fight was non-stop toe-to-toe action. Somebody had to give right?
The fight came to halt after Rios dropped his opponent with a vicious right uppercut! Although he would rise to his feet, the 24 year-old would tell the referee he wouldn’t continue.
With the news of he younger fighter quitting, it dampens what was a terrific fight between these two men.
Rios improves his record to (31-3, 15KOs) while Dela Hoya suffers his first career defeat!
