Roman Gonzalez Motivated Ahead Of Juan Francisco Estrada Trilogy!

Four-division world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (50-3, 41KOs) will look to settle his long-standing rivalry with WBC Franchise and WBA super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada (42-3, 28KOs) on March 5.

In March of 2021, the two future hall of famers waged battle. Their unification bout was a back and forth war. At the end of twelve hard-fought rounds, it would be Estrada announced as the winner via split decision. Estrada would not only defeat Gonzalez, but take his WBA title in the process. The decision didn’t sit well with Gonzalez nor a lot of fans. Chocolatito felt he pulled away in the back half of the fight.

Since the rematch, both men have been out of the media spotlight with not much being said on their second encounter. However, Gonzalez has broken his silence from training camp to share his thoughts heading into this pivotal rematch.

He told fighthype.com the following:

“Super motivated, very, very motivated. I want to thank God we’re here back in camp. I’m really, really focused on the fight.”

BRING IT BACK

Short and sweet from an always-reserved Gonzalez. At 34 years old, Chocolatitio is in the midst of a career resurgence. If he’s able to defeat Estrada, he will regain his footing as the top super flyweight in the sport. This would be a cherished position after being brutally knocked out by Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (50-5-1, 43KOs) in their rematch in 2017.

Moreover, since that brutal defeat, he is 4-1 in his last five fights. This includes a dominant knockout win over Khalid Yafai in 2020 to win the WBA super flyweight title.

On March 5, we will see this great rivalry come to a close. So mark your calendars because Gonzalez and Estrada are both motivated to prove once and for all who is the better fighter!
