Andy Ruiz lets Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn know he will not bend to their demands!
Well it looks as if things are about to get real interesting between the camps of unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz and former champion Anthony Joshua.
After pulling off a major upset back on June 1 Andy Ruiz has been traveling around the world from appearances on the Jimmy Kimmel Show in Los Angeles, California to traveling to Mexico and Puerto Rico. The champ has been busy to say the least.
While that has been happening, negotiations for the rematch have been quietly taking place. However, comments made by Ruiz about not willing to rematch Joshua in the UK could put the rematch in danger of not happening.
The unified champion spoke with TMZ:
“It doesn’t matter because I’m the champion. I’m calling the shots. We’re the A-side.”
We know the UK and New York are considered the top two likely destinations for the rematch. Conversely, the champion has mentioned Las Vegas, California and México as possibilities.
Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn maintains they have the final say on where the fight takes place due to a provision put in the contract prior to their June 1 bout.
Ruiz seems to be willing to push the backs of both Joshua and Hearn into a corner to get his way. While this may cause a delay in a deal getting done, this quibble over the location of the rematch will no doubt get handled, as there is too much at stake for all parties involved.
For Joshua, it’s a chance at redemption and an opportunity to restore his place among the top of the heavyweight division. For Ruiz, this is a shot at validation and his opportunity to remain where he’s always felt he belonged; smack-dab right at the top of the division!
