Srisaket’s Sor Rungvisai’s Next Title Defense Will Be Against Iran Diaz In October
On February 24, 2018 WBC Super Flyweight Champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai fought mandatory contender Juan Francisco Estrada.
It was an exciting contest that ended in a majority decision win for Rungvisai. Since then, folks have been questioning the possibility for a rematch. So far, it does not look like we should expect it just yet.
After defeating Estrada, Rungvisai went on hiatus to deal with personal and business matters. He carried a heavy heart after breaking up with his previous fiance (although, he subsequently got engaged to a different lady). On the business front, though already signed with Nakornloung Promotions the champ was negotiating a co-promotional deal with ONE Championship Promotions. Rungvisai would return to the ring July 21st to the tune of a 1st round stoppage over Young Gil Bae in Thailand.
Now,3KingsBoxing has learned that Rungvisai will fight again on October 6. He will defend his WBC Super Flyweight title against Iran Diaz (14-2-3, 6 KOs) at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
ONE Championship is a Singapore-based MMA and Kickboxing promotional company. A premier mixed martial arts promotional companies, they are making a venture into the Asian boxing scene. Rungvisai’s popularity throughout Thailand and Asia will aid this venture.
Their “Kingdom of Heroes” card will feature boxing, as well as Muay Thai and MMA bouts. Looking to make good on their investment, the Rungvisai – Diaz bout will serve to headline the event.
