Ryan Garcia Teams Up With Derrick James!
Super lightweight contender “King” Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19 KO’s) has taken to social media to announce his new trainer will be 3Kings Boxing 2022 Trainer of the Year, Derrick James!
In his last match, Garcia suffered his first professional loss to multi-divisional champ Gervonta Davis. Near instantly after the contest, Garcia publicly severed ties with then coach, Joe Goossen. Prior to Goossen, King Ryan was trained by Canelo Alvarez chief second Eddy Reynoso.
IRON SHARPENS IRON!
The switch to James may come as something of a shock, but it has the potential to be a very good fit. James has justifiably garnered a great deal of attention and accolades over the last several years. At the present moment, he is training lightweight contender Frank Martin, two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr and undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo. So, it goes without saying that Garcia will be in good company!
There is no doubt that the amateur standout and social media sensation is full of talent. At the same time, as evidenced by the Davis dustup, Garcia has a number of wrinkles in his game that need to be ironed out. This should fit right into James’ wheelhouse as he is often praised for being a coach who excels at instilling the fundamentals and verbalizing game plans.
Now, only time will tell how well, or poorly, this partnership will work for the ambitious boxer. No matter what the result is however, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news!
