Garcia Calls Out Devin Haney For Not Avoiding The Left Hook

“King” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20KO) doesn’t feel there needs to be a rematch with two-divisional champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (30-0, 15KO). In addition, he believes the inability to block the left hook is what led to The Dream’s downfall.

On April 20, 2024, Garcia shocked the boxing world by dominating Haney in the later rounds. He scored three knockdowns and repeatedly hurt the Las Vegas residence. While riding high on the victory, Garcia’s celebration stopped after reports of a failed test for a banned substance hit the news cycle.

The fight later ruled a no-contest, and Garcia served a one-year suspension. Haney has been adamant about getting a rematch. Both rivals are facing other opponents before facing each other later this year.

HE SPOKE THE TRUTH

Team Haney insisted the use of a banned substance is what gave his arch-rival an unfair advantage. While speaking with Ring Magazine, Garcia explained the reason for his success.

“They want to keep saying it’s the cause of the Peds. I was fighting a guy on PED’s. PEDs don’t help you block a left hook. He didn’t block any it, and he got his ass handed to him. I guess for me it’s just proving I’ll do it again … It was pretty one-sided there really shouldn’t be a rematch to be honest.”

Garcia is correct like it or not. Haney called his arch-rival a one-trick pony and failed to nulify that one trick the entire fight. In addition, his status with pundits took a huge dip as many felt Haney showed a serious lack of ring IQ.

This author disagrees with the notion the rematch shouldn’t take place. Garcia needs to erase all doubt about if PED’s played a role in the first fight. Haney must redeem himself for such a poor performance in the eyes of the boxing public.

Plus, Haney received heavy criticism from the boxing community for slapping Garcia with a lawsuit. If both men get past their respective opponents, they will have a lot to prove going into the rematch.
