John Ryder Looking to Make The Most of his Opportunity Against Canelo Alvarez

There is no denying the fact that super middleweight fighter John “The Gorilla” Ryder (32-5, 18 KO’s) is up against it in his next bout. This is due to his facing undisputed 168-pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KO’s). Ryder will do so in the heart of Canelo’s native Mexico at Estadio Akron Stadium. If victorious, Ryder would achieve full world champion status for the first time in his career.

In his sole bout for a (non-interim) world title, The Gorilla was outpointed by Callum Smith. Now the UK southpaw will aim to strong-arm Canelo for his quartet of titles. Since the latest of his five professional losses, to Callum Smith, Ryder has beaten Mike Guy, Jozef Jurko, Daniel Jacobs and Zach Parker. Brimming with confidence, The Gorilla spoke his mind at the final presser.

“This is a great opportunity for me. Many times in my career, this looked like an aim at a distance but it is here now, it’s finally upon us. I don’t wish to waste this opportunity.”

“I appreciate the level of the task at hand for me but I’ve left no stone unturned in this camp. And the aim is still to come away victorious come Saturday.”

TUNE UP OR TUNED OUT?

While this is a terrific match-up for Ryder, it’s really a lose-lose situation for Canelo. Naturally, Saul Alvarez will be a tremendous betting favorite going into this match. So much so, that a number of the fans question why this particular match was penned in the first place. Therefore, no one will pat his back and shower him in congratulations for beating Ryder. On the other hand, he’d be the laughingstock of the boxing world if he was toppled by such an unorthodox opponent.

Yet, before we delve into a speculating frenzy, let’s wait a few more days and just watch how it all plays out. Smart money is on Alvarez, but perhaps the winds of fate will blow in The Gorilla’s direction. Thankfully, no matter what happens, 3Kings Boxing will be here to cover the news!
